Hong Kong
Hong Kong is a place which offers an intoxicating blend of the modern, the traditional and the natural, in a relatively small area that's easy to get around in. It's no wonder travelers continue to flock to its shopping malls, museums, theme parks, temples, beaches and more.
When it comes to modern elegance and convenience, Hong Kong doesn't disappoint. There is the ever present hustle and bustle of a cosmopolitan city, in its dense and dynamic streets, and in the many skyscrapers reaching for the heavens. Many of these buildings don't just contain the offices of local and multinational companies. They also feature stores and shops from many premium international brands. And then there're the shopping malls themselves, which offer a dizzying array of prestigious labels and fine dining, which in some places continues until well past midnight.
Every evening, the synchronized light and music show known as the Symphony of Lights features several dozen buildings, bathing the harbor and night sky with a continuous stream of colors, line and moving patterns. Even when that show is over, many buildings continue to let out pulses of light and color, bringing further character to the urban ambiance.
When it comes to traditional sights, Hong Kong continues to offer much to delight and entice. It's not uncommon to stumble across a lovely traditional temple, while walking along one of the many busy streets. A bronze plaque outside may offer a peek into the temple's history, and once inside, the scent of incense and the interior furnishings will transport you to a different and older time. Hong Kong is full of beautiful historic places, many of which tie into its rich and storied past, as a former British colony, and as a part of and gateway to China. This city contains a fascinating blend of the Western and Eastern world that is rarely seen anywhere else.
One other thing that Hong Kong has to offer, that many people are not aware of, is many beautiful natural environments, from beaches to hiking paths and more. A huge portion of its overall space is devoted to natural parks and preserves. This is a great situation for travelers because this means you can take a quick dip close to a sandy beach, or work up a sweat while walking up some rugged terrain, and yet there's still time to head back to the city, refresh for a bit, and then go out for a night on the town.
Hong Kong truly offers a huge number of possibilities to world travelers. What's been mentioned here is only the tip of the iceberg. If you've never been to Hong Kong, you owe it to yourself to visit, so that you can experience its urban dynamism, old world charm and beautiful natural scenery for yourself.
