Boracay

When it comes to beaches in the Philippines, the first beach that probably comes to mind is none other than Boracay. Known for its pristine, powdery sand and aquamarine waters, Boracay has been heavily marketed as the premiere beach destination in the Philippines. If you're serious about your water fun, then you simply must visit Boracay.

Boracay is a small, bone-shaped island south of Manila and just off the tip of the Visayan island of Panay. This place is your tropical island paradise come true, with the aforementioned sandy white beaches, clear blue waters, gently swaying palm trees and diverse marine life. There are around a dozen beaches surrounding the island, but most tourists are drawn to White Beach and Bulabog Beach, the two main tourist destination beaches there. And because these tourists come from all over the world, you're sure to find a lot of restaurants offering a wide variety of cuisines here.

White Beach is the most famous stretch of sand on Boracay, lying on the western side of the island. This beach is Boracay's party central. There you'll find the island's tony hotels, bars, restaurants and cafes. This is where the foreign tourists typically come to stay, especially during the peak season. They play in the waters and relax on the sand during the day, and they go dancing and bar-hopping at night.

Bulabog Beach, on the other hand, lies on the eastern side of the island. It is usually not as crowded as White Beach, and the waves here are larger and stronger. It is also very windy here all year-round. These qualities, however, make Bulabog Beach a favorite spot for surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing.

There is more to Boracay than just the beaches, of course. If you're into diving, there are more than 20 dive spots around the island. If golf is your thing, Boracay has its own world-class 18-hole golf course. The island also has a number of specialty shops, a department store and a farmer's market if you feel like shopping. If you're not afraid of bats or caves, you can explore the bat caves in Yapak, a short tricycle ride inland from the beach.

Boracay is the premiere beach destination of the Philippines. If you're serious about your water fun and beach partying, you simply must visit Boracay.
