***END OF ITINERARY***

Bandung: Paris of Java

The enchanting capital of Western Java, Bandung is off the typical itinerary when people visit Indonesia. It is a city with a personality different from the capitals of other main regions in Indonesia. Bandung has often been called the “Paris of Java,” because of the trend for fashion and the large amount of clothes that are available for such a cheap price. The city in itself is not completely urban, however, as it is also teeming with natural hotspots and wonders that need to be explored.

If you decide to take a trip to Bandung, you must definitely experience these amazing attractions:

Cihampelas

Known to be one of the central shopping areas in Bandung, Cihampelas is home to many clothing shops, most especially factory outlets. You can find both branded and unbranded clothes, and everything is offered at insanely low prices. If you want to see more of what the locals have to offer, you’ll also find several shops where you can get Javanese clothes and crafts.

Kawah Putih

Kawah Putih is not inside Bandung itself but is about 2 hours by car. It is one of the most enchanting of the nearby natural attractions of Bandung as it is a crater lake of an almost milky white color – which is where “kawah putih,” or white crater came from. The water is sulfuric though, so it is not a lake for swimming in. It is truly stunning to see the lake within the majestic walls of a volcano covered in greenery.

Saung Angklung Udjo

For a cultural experience, a visit to the Saung Angklung Udjo is a great idea. Angklung is one of the traditional instruments in Java. Thus the performance is a display of how they make music with the instruments, and also a show of other parts of Javanese culture through a puppet show, as well as a mask dance. Interestingly enough, the show is performed mostly by children who train at the school to become more skilled and professional in the art.

Tangkuban Perahu

The most popular natural attraction in Bandung, this is a volcano north of the city. You could go all the way to the edge for a close-up surreal view of the crater. Although this is now a dormant volcano, the crater is still continuously emitting sulphur gas. With its cool air and breath-taking scenery surrounding it, this is a must-visit destination for first-timers to Bandung.

Bandung is a place with much to see and experience on different levels. There are also several observatories and museums for any person that is up for some learning. This city is definitely quite unique in many aspects from other Indonesian tourist spots, so come out and try experiencing it!

Tour was amazing! Too short in my opinion, would recommend at least an additional 2 nights stay! Kawa Putih was lovely, super cold too as we did the morning visit. Didn't have much time to shop at the factory outlets, decent choices of brands but most of the items are knock offs, shop at your own discretion. Food wise, meals are a tad too spicy for my family. Danke Lokopoko!
