KRABI AND THE KOH PHI PHI ISLANDS
From food to adventure, nature to culture – everything in Krabi, Thailand screams amazing! Aside from the Koh Phi Phi Islands, popularized by the movie “The Beach”, there are so many attractions in Krabi that are worth visiting. On this part of Thailand shrouded by breathtaking nature, adventure and fun, you will certainly find your own piece of paradise.
Exploring Krabi is probably be better if the tour would start in Krabi Town. Visitors will be welcomed by a gigantic crab monument at the peaceful riverside promenade with impressive limestone rock formations at the background. Unlike the other touristy towns in Thailand, Krabi is on the quiet side. Despite being the gateway to the Phi Phi Islands, the town still maintains its peaceful streets, lively marketplace and good old buildings and establishments.
Three kilometers away from Krabi Town, is Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Sua), the most famous attraction in Krabi. Founded in 1975, it is said that a Buddhist monk saw tigers roaming around the cave during his mediations, hence the name. The 1,237 steps to climb the summit may be intimidating to some, but the views from up there is absolutely stunning! It is certainly on of the best sites in Krabi to marvel at beautiful sceneries and breathtaking panoramic views of the sea.
Easily accessible by boat from Krabi, is Railay Beach, the ultimate getaway for adventure seekers. Not only it offers white sand beaches, it is also home to many natural wonders. Rock climbing, sea kayaking, trekking and white water rafting are some of the activities that are offered in this lovely peninsula.
For beach lovers, the ultimate destination is Koh Phi Phi, which is administratively part of the Krabi Province. There are six Islands consisting the Phi Phi Archipelago namely Ko Phi Phi Don, Ko Phi Phi Leh, Ko Mai Phai, Koh Yung, Ko Bida Noi and Ko Bida Nok. Koh Phi Phi Leh, home of the famous Maya Bay, is the second largest and an uninhabited island. Koh Phi Phi Don, on the other hand, is the largest among the group. It is the only populated island and it can be reached by boat either from Krabi or Phuket.
In an area that lies off the beaten track, Thung Teao Forest National offers the most relaxing and tranquil place in Krabi. The park has abundance of plant species, rare wild life and age-old trees that reach high up the sky.
