Kota Kinabalu

Kota Kinabalu is the capital of Sabah, a city which was previously known as Jesselton. This beautiful city is located in the Borneo Island’s Northwest Coast, which faces both the Park of Tunku Abdul Rahman and the Southern China Sea. This place is extremely popular among the tourists, and there is a very good reason for that.

Not only do you get to experience the fantastic seafood in the area, but you can also go island hopping and see the orangutans and ride a steam train.

It is just a short distance away from Kuala Lampur and only a 40-minute flight away from Brunei. Once you get there, you can explore the cities, something that will be both a treat for your eyes and your stomach, as the city offers delicacies and sights that cannot be found anywhere else.

Their food is one of a kind, something that cannot be forgotten, as they have an extremely diverse culinary, one that is known throughout Southeast Asia. Aside from their cuisine, there are also many other things that you can experience, such as taking a walk through their botanical gardens to savor the nature, taking a dip at the Poring Hot Springs, and if you’re up for it, then maybe even climbing the Kinabalu, which is the highest mountain in Malaysia.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you could also go on an overnight trip to Pulau Tiga, which is an island that is approximately 2 hours away from the capital by car. And the best part of Kota Kinabalu, is island hopping from the city’s west coast. Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park is for those who want to soak up some sun. Splash in the water or go snorkeling, it’s up to you. This park offers everything that you would need for a fun day out in the water.

Moving towards the city, you can also enjoy the sights and smells that it has to offer. Visit the largest floating mosque in Kota Kinabalu, for instance, as it is a work of art. The architecture alone is enough to take your breath away and leave you wanting to see more. In that case, you can go ahead and visit the other touristic spots in the city, such as the Atkinson Clock Tower, the Sabah Museum, and the Menara Tun Mustapha, which is currently Borneo’s second tallest building. These are just a few of the examples of the many more sights that Kota Kinabalu has to offer.
